tulip types

Tulips come in many shapes and forms. There are specific types for you to choose from, but what are they and why should you care? There are quite a few available, each with their own special super power.

Parrot tulips have ruffles twists and pleats, and are very extravagant flowers.

Baroque in style, they add and element of drama to your Spring planting. They come in a range of colours from red, yellow, purple, pink, green, violet and orange. They have patterns of stripes, flames or feathery markings.

Lily Flowered tulips are tall and elegant with graceful flexed petals. They bloom late and are a welcome addition to prolong spring.

They make great cut flowers because of their strong long stem and look lovely in a bouquet.

Triumph tulips are the quintessential tulip we all love and adore. They are the classic shape of an egg and come in many colours borne on tall stems.

Great for the cut flower garden as well as in borders and pots, they are classed as perennial (come back every year) but many gardeners like to refresh annually by buying new bulbs.

Peony tulips are double flowered and resemble peonies. They flower for two weeks and have a pleasant scent. They are the loveliest flower because they are so voluptuous and luxurious in rich colours like silk and taffeta.

They are late flowering from April and May, with large saucer shaped blooms that grow well in the border and pots. They also make great cut flowers. Such beauties.
